Jai Arrow granted NRL permission to reach 100-game milestone
The National Rugby League (NRL) has granted the South Sydney Rabbitohs special permission to allow veteran Jai Arrow to participate in two more matches to reach his 100-game milestone for the club. Arrow, 31, was forced to retire earlier this year following a diagnosis of motor neurone disease (MND).
To facilitate this tribute, the NRL has implemented specific rule changes for the Rabbitohs during Rounds 26 and 27. The club will be permitted to carry seven players on the bench instead of the standard four and will have nine interchanges available instead of eight. Arrow is scheduled to take the field for the opening seconds of matches against the Gold Coast Titans and the Sydney Roosters before being substituted.
South Sydney CEO Blake Solly stated that the initiative aims to raise awareness and funds for the fight against MND, noting that the gesture shows that the disease will not hold individuals back from their goals. The proposal received support from the NRL, the Rugby League Players Association (RLPA), and the opposing clubs.
