Jaipur food safety raid seizes 85,000 kg of contaminated pickles
Food safety officials and the CMHO Jaipur II conducted a major raid on ‘Shree Shyam Foods’, a pickle manufacturing firm located in the Muhana Mandi area of Jaipur. During the inspection of the facility's basement, authorities discovered severe sanitary violations. Approximately 85,000 kilograms of contaminated raw materials and finished pickles—including carrot, mango, lemon, and chili varieties—were seized.
Inspectors reported finding dead lizards, mosquitoes, flies, and spider webs floating inside large plastic tanks used for processing. The facility's basement was described as being in a state of extreme filth with broken windows and nets, allowing insects to enter the production area. The seized stock included roughly 80,000 kg of raw material and 5,000 kg of ready-to-supply packaged pickles.
CMHO Dr. Manish Mittal stated that the products, sold under the ‘Shree Shyam Foods’ brand, were distributed to shops and roadside eateries across Jaipur and surrounding rural areas. In response to the health risks, the firm has been sealed, its food license is being suspended, and samples have been sent to the State Food Lab for further testing. The contaminated goods are slated for destruction according to regulations.
