Jair Bolsonaro May Undergo Ninth Surgery to Treat Hiccups

Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro is being evaluated for a possible additional operation to control persistent hiccup crises that stem from nerve damage caused by the 2018 stabbing. The procedure would be his ninth surgery related to that injury.

His medical team is consulting U.S. specialists, and if they deem it feasible, American doctors could be brought to Brazil. Bolsonaro remains under house arrest and must obtain permission from Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes to leave his residence for the surgery. The 90‑day house‑arrest term ends on Thursday, and his defense has requested an extension.
