Jair Bolsonaro faces military‑tribunal hearing and house‑repair permission in Brazil

Brazil's former president Jair Bolsonaro, convicted by the Supreme Federal Court to 27 years and three months in prison for involvement in an attempted coup, remains under humanitarian house arrest. The Superior Military Court (STM) scheduled a hearing for 24 June to consider the defense’s request to block minister Lt‑Brigadier Joseli Parente Camelo from the case, alleging the minister lacks impartiality after publicly supporting accountability for the Jan 8, 2023 events. The Military Public Prosecutor seeks to strip Bolsonaro of his military rank.

Separately, on 5 June STF minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized a service provider to enter Bolsonaro’s residence for repairs and maintenance while he continues house detention for health reasons. The order permits work on 9‑11 June, requires a prior inspection, and mandates that any electronic devices remain under security guard custody. Bolsonaro is recovering from shoulder surgery and a recent bout of broncopneumonia.
