Jair Bolsonaro seeks legal extensions on firearm testimony and house arrest

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro's legal team filed two separate motions with the Supreme Federal Court (STF). One request asks Justice Alexandre de Moraes to allow unlimited meetings with lawyers before Bolsonaro’s testimony on June 23 regarding the seizure of a firearm registered to him during a traffic checkpoint. The defense argues this is needed to prepare a proper defense.

A second petition seeks a further 90‑day extension of Bolsonaro’s humanitarian house arrest, arguing that his health—still affected by aspirative bronchopneumonia, postural instability, and risk of falls—requires continued medical monitoring. The filing includes medical reports and proposes an official medical assessment before any decision is made. Bolsonaro is serving a 27‑year sentence for the January 8, 2023, attacks.

Both motions will be decided by Justice Moraes, who previously set the conditions for Bolsonaro’s testimony and his house‑arrest status.
