Jair Bolsonaro's visitation restrictions may be lifted following favorable PGR opinion

The Prosecutor General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet Branco, has issued a favorable opinion to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) regarding the request to allow Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to visit his father, former President Jair Bolsonaro.

Jair Bolsonaro is currently serving a sentence of 27 years and three months under house arrest following a conviction related to a coup attempt. A 90-day restriction on Flávio Bolsonaro's visits was imposed in July by Minister Alexandre de Moraes after the Senator published a letter written by the former President on social media, which violated restrictions on the former President's internet use.

The defense argues that the restriction, set to expire on October 11, is no longer necessary. Prosecutor Gonet stated there are no new facts indicating a breach of court conditions that would justify extending the suspension.

Separately, Minister Kassio Nunes Marques is reviewing a criminal revision request filed by Bolsonaro's defense on September 25. Nunes Marques is expected to decide whether to bring the matter to the STF plenary for judgment after the second round of elections in October.
