Brazil’s ex‑president Jair Bolsonaro’s last firearm seized – shotgun painted with national flag
The Federal Police (PF) completed the seizure of all weapons registered in the name of former president Jair Bolsonaro, ending a series of searches ordered by the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The final item, a shotgun registered to Bolsonaro, was recovered on 8 July 2026 in Cachoeirinha, part of the Porto Alegre metropolitan area in Rio Grande do Sul. The firearm, a gift from a weapons manufacturer, had been customized with the Brazilian flag and the inscription “Ordem e Progresso.” Bolsonaro’s defence had informed the STF that the gun was still with the manufacturer, but the company voluntarily surrendered it to the PF. The shotgun was the last of ten arms listed in the STF mandate, following the earlier recovery of a Glock pistol seized during a traffic stop in Brasília. All seized weapons are now in police custody while investigations into Bolsonaro’s alleged violations continue.
The case highlights the ongoing legal scrutiny of Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27‑year‑plus sentence under humanitarian house arrest, and fuels debate over gun‑ownership policies that were expanded during his administration.
