Jairam Mahto and Jharkhand police embroiled in controversy

A dispute has escalated between Dumri MLA and JLKM leader Jairam Mahto and Barwadda Police Station In-charge Ravi Kumar in Jharkhand. The conflict originated from allegations regarding the creation of fraudulent certificates using the forged seal and signature of a local Mukhiya. Following the detention of a JLKM leader for questioning, Mahto and his supporters visited the Barwadda police station, leading to claims of chaos, physical altercations, and obstruction of government work.

The situation intensified after a WhatsApp audio recording of a phone call between Mahto and the police officer went viral on social media. The police allege that Mahto used abusive language during the call, while Mahto’s side has raised complaints regarding physical assault and attempted strangulation at the station.

Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has criticized the state government and the police administration over the incident. Marandi questioned whether standards of decorum apply only to public representatives and not to police officers, while also raising concerns regarding the legality of recording and circulating private conversations without consent.
