Jaish-e-Mohammed operative arrested in West Bengal terror plot targeting chief minister and Jantar Mantar

The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) arrested a suspect identified as Hameem, linked to the Pakistan‑based militant group Jaish‑e‑Mohammed, on July 31 in a residential complex in Bhadra‑Man. Investigators say Hameem was planning to attack West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari and to infiltrate a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar by wearing a police uniform. Mobile phone and social‑media data allegedly show contacts with Pakistani handlers directing the operation.

STF also detained Arpita Sarkar, a woman from Jharkhand described as Hameem’s girlfriend and collaborator. Authorities allege she helped gather intelligence on influential figures and plotted a honey‑trap scheme to kidnap a state minister’s son for ransom. The agency is expanding the probe to uncover any additional participants.
