Jakarta promotes film industry growth and job opportunities

Jakarta is pursuing dual initiatives to bolster its economy through the creative and labor sectors. At the Jakarta Film Summit 2026, Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo and Vice Governor Rano Karno pitched the city as a regional film hub, aiming to emulate Busan, South Korea. The summit brought together over 500 participants from 10 countries to discuss investment, production co-financing, and regulatory ease. To support this, the Jakarta Film Commission is facilitating filming permits, and the government is offering a 50 percent film tax discount to attract production houses.

Simultaneously, the Jakarta Provincial Government launched the Karir Jakarta and Tenaga Kerja Mandiri Expo 2026 at Smesco. The job fair provides 12,000 vacancies across approximately 100 companies from both state-owned and private sectors. Governor Pramono stated that the city remains open to job seekers from all regions to help reduce the open unemployment rate from 5.79 percent to a target of 3.5 percent. Authorities are closely monitoring the recruitment process to ensure companies fulfill their obligations, including accommodating workers with disabilities.
