BMKG issues rain, thunderstorm and up‑to‑4‑metre wave warnings across Indonesia for May 25‑28, 2026

Indonesia’s meteorological agency, BMKG, forecast light to moderate rain over Jakarta and the wider Jabodetabek region on Monday, 25 May 2026, with showers expected from midday into the evening. The agency also warned of thunderstorm potential in several western cities such as Tanjungpinang, Palembang and Pontianak, and listed a broad swath of other locations that could see light rain, including Bandung, Surabaya and Yogyakarta.

In addition, BMKG issued a marine alert for high seas between 25‑28 May, predicting wave heights of up to 4 metres in multiple waters. The most significant risk is in the northern Sumatra area, especially the western waters of the Nias and Batu islands and the Malacca Strait, where waves of 2.5‑4 metres may disrupt navigation. Smaller waves of 1.25‑2.5 metres are also expected in the Indian Ocean off Bali, the southern Java coast and parts of the Sulawesi seas. Wind speeds of 6‑32 knots were noted, with higher values in the northern Pacific near Papua. BMKG advised fishermen and coastal communities to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
