Indonesia weather: Extreme dry spells and rising temperatures reported by BMKG

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reports varied weather conditions across the archipelago, marked by an ongoing dry season influenced by El Nino. In several provinces, extreme periods without rain have been recorded, with Yogyakarta reaching 131 days without precipitation, followed by Central and East Java.

In East Java, temperatures are expected to rise, potentially reaching 37 degrees Celsius in coastal areas during the peak of the dry season in October. Conversely, some regions like Aceh and parts of Sumatra are experiencing localized heavy rain and strong winds despite the broader dry conditions.

Other reported phenomena include hazy air and smoke/fog in parts of Kalimantan and Sumatra, as well as potential for sudden weather changes. Additionally, BMKG has identified evidence of liquefaction and tsunami traces in Flores following a previous M7.7 earthquake, aiding ongoing reconstruction efforts.
