Jakarta Faces Rising Dengue Threat as El Niño Heat Persists

Medical experts warn that the El Niño phenomenon, expected to continue through the end of 2026, will raise temperatures and expand the habitat of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, increasing dengue fever risk across Indonesia. A study by Gadjah Mada University projects more than two million dengue patients in 2024, with children aged 5‑14 accounting for 41 % of recent fatalities. Experts advise protective clothing, repellents, early symptom detection and vaccination for both children and high‑risk adults.

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecasts partly cloudy skies in Jakarta on June 27, 2026, with thick clouds and light drizzle in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures are expected to average 28‑29 °C. The agency also noted haze over the Seribu Islands earlier in the day.

Both reports highlight how climatic conditions this year may exacerbate public‑health challenges in the capital region.
