Jakarta Faces Thunderstorms as Indonesia Braces for Widespread Rain on June 15

Indonesia's meteorological agency, BMKG, warned that Jakarta could experience thunderstorms with heavy rain and lightning on Monday, June 15, 2026. The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms from early morning through the evening, with rain probabilities rising to 58 % in the late morning and the risk of intense storms and strong winds later in the day. Residents were urged to avoid open areas during lightning, watch out for flooding, fallen trees, and to heed the very high UV index (level 9) and poor air quality (AQI 129).

Across the archipelago, BMKG projected light rain for most regions, listing cities such as Ambon, Bandung, and Yogyakarta among those expected to see brief showers. Moderate rain was forecast for Mamuju and Medan, while cloud cover would dominate major cities including Jakarta, Surabaya and Banda Aceh. The agency advised the public to stay alert to changing conditions, especially in areas where rain could cause water accumulation or reduced visibility.
