Jakarta governor mandates regular cleanup of Muara Angke and showcases hotel waste‑management model

Governor Pramono Anung ordered his administration to conduct routine cleaning at Muara Angke in North Jakarta to prevent a repeat of the viral "trash island" that recently appeared in the waterway. He said the area, where 13 rivers discharge into Jakarta Bay, has long suffered from sedimentation and waste accumulation and must be cleared regularly. "I have instructed that Muara Angke be cleaned routinely so it does not become like the island we saw before," he told reporters.

On the same day, the governor visited JS Luwansa Hotel & Convention Center in Kuningan as part of the first Car Free Day on Rasuna Said. The hotel was highlighted as a pilot for waste‑management practices in the hospitality sector, featuring separate bins for organics, non‑organics, hazardous waste (B3) and residues, and a partnership with a local waste‑bank for further sorting. General Manager Vivek Kumar said the governor’s visit "motivates us to continue developing a culture of environmental care, starting from simple, consistent actions."
