Jakarta Governor Orders Removal of Illegal Traffic Controllers and Revives Odd‑Even Scheme

Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo directed the Jakarta Transportation Agency and the Metropolitan Police to dismantle unofficial traffic controllers, known locally as “Pak Ogah,” from protocol roads across the capital. He also called for the construction of free, 24‑hour shelters for ride‑hailing drivers at major junctions and for an underground corridor linking Senayan City and Plaza Senayan to support small businesses.

On July 8, the city reinstated its odd‑even license‑plate restriction on 26 major streets, operating from 06:00‑10:00 and 16:00‑21:00 on weekdays. The measure aims to curb congestion and encourages public‑transport use, with penalties of up to two months’ detention or a fine of Rp 500 000 for violators.
