Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung backs expansion of Sekolah Rakyat to house 1,000 students

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung affirmed the provincial government's commitment to expand the Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) programme, including the creation of a boarding facility capable of accommodating up to 1,000 pupils. The pledge was made alongside Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf during a visit to SRMA 10 in South Jakarta, echoing President Prabowo Subianto’s broader education strategy.

The governor noted that the first‑year intake saw about 470 applicants, with 408 meeting the selection criteria and 190 receiving the Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) scholarship. To enable the boarding expansion, DKI Jakarta is evaluating land parcels of five to eight hectares for the new campus. Existing provincial initiatives such as KJP Plus, the Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU) scholarship, and a diploma‑clearing program will continue to support under‑privileged students.

If realised, the enlarged Sekolah Rakyat is expected to provide long‑term educational opportunities for low‑income families in the capital, aiming to break inter‑generational cycles of poverty.
