Jakarta Marks 499th Anniversary with Free Transit and Citywide Festivities
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta announced that, to celebrate the city’s 499th birthday, all public transport operated by the province – including Trans‑Jakarta, the MRT and LRT – will be free on 22 June and again on 27‑28 June 2026. The fare waiver also applies to entry at major government‑run attractions such as Ancol, the National Monument (Monas), Ragunan Zoo and several museums for any Indonesian citizen holding a KTP.
Cultural programmes accompany the transport offer. The Jakarta Philharmonic Orchestra performed a special concert at the newly opened Taman Bendera Pusaka, featuring Betawi, national and classical pieces. In addition, the Association of Indonesian Shopping Centre Operators staged a parade of 17 malls along the Car‑Free Day route at the Bundaran HI, showcasing the city’s retail sector and promoting the “Bergerak Menuju Era Baru Jakarta” theme.
The combined measures aim to boost tourism, stimulate local businesses and reinforce Jakarta’s image as a vibrant, inclusive metropolis.
