Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung vows to keep Transjabodetabek subsidies despite fare hike

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced that while the Transjabodetabek public‑transport fare will be adjusted, the provincial government will continue to subsidise the service. He said the new fare will be announced soon and that the increase will be carefully considered so it does not push commuters back to private vehicles. The planned rise affects routes such as the Blok M‑Soekarno Hatta line, where the current fare is 3,500 rupiah. Anung highlighted that DKI Jakarta bears a large subsidy burden, including costs for maintaining stops outside the city, and pledged to improve service quality and expand the fleet. He noted that Jakarta’s transport network already has 93% connectivity but only about 30% of residents regularly use it, and that the province provides free rides for fifteen eligible groups.

The governor’s stance aims to keep public‑transport usage high amid recent fuel‑price hikes and to ensure affordability for low‑income commuters.
