Jakarta Governor Pramono Calls for Expanded Transjabodetabek Routes to Ease Congestion

Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo asked members of the Jakarta City Transport Council (DTKJ) to improve the capital’s transport system, pointing to chronic congestion caused by about four million commuters who travel to the city each morning and return home in the evening, largely by private vehicle. He noted that while the city’s transport network now reaches 93 % connectivity, only around 27‑28 % of residents use public transport, and urged a shift toward mass‑transit options.

Pramono also responded to a proposal from the Depok municipal government to add five new Transjabodetabek routes linking Depok areas such as Sawangan, Terminal Depok, Jatijajar and the University of Indonesia with Jakarta destinations including Lebak Bulus, Kuningan, Blok M, Kampung Rambutan and Manggarai. He said the service is already essential for commuters and that the proposal will be discussed further with Depok officials as a means to reduce private‑car use and ease traffic congestion.
