Jakarta hosts Fun Athletics Championship for Special‑Needs Children 2026

Around 120 participants from 18 schools, inclusive institutions and community groups, including some from Bogor, competed in the Fun Athletics Championship for Children with Special Needs (ABK) on 4 July 2026 at the Velodrome Athletics Stadium in Rawamangun, East Jakarta. The event, organized by London School Beyond Academy (LSBA) together with PT Petualang Berani Melangkah and supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Office, the DKI Jakarta Health Office and Universitas Negeri Jakarta, featured 25‑, 50‑ and 100‑metre races across three age groups.

Committee chair Mira Kusuma said the aim was to provide a regular platform for ABK athletes to evaluate their training, adding, "Harapannya, kejuaraan ini bisa rutin diselenggarakan setiap tahun supaya teman‑teman ABK memiliki kesempatan mengevaluasi hasil latihan mereka." LSBA director Dr Chrisdina Wempi emphasized inclusivity, stating, "Kejuaraan ini merupakan ruang bagi setiap peserta untuk menunjukkan kemampuan terbaiknya sekaligus membuktikan bahwa setiap individu berhak memperoleh kesempatan yang sama untuk berkembang." The organizers hope the championship will encourage ongoing participation of special‑needs children in athletics and serve as a stepping‑stone to future competitions.
