Jakarta housing program targets 10,300 unfit homes for renovation

The Indonesian Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has set a target to renovate 10,300 unfit houses in Jakarta this year. Minister Maruarar Sirait announced the initiative, noting a significant increase from the approximately 200 houses renovated in 2025.

Following coordination with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, the Cakung and Tambora areas have been identified as priority locations for the program. The initiative aims to transform substandard dwellings into livable homes.

Eligibility for the program is based on specific criteria, including residency in the lowest economic deciles (deciles 1 to 4) and the physical condition of the structure. Technical requirements focus on the quality of floors, walls, and roofs. The government is also addressing health concerns related to the widespread use of asbestos roofing in urban Jakarta, which is linked to respiratory issues and cancer.
