Indonesia unfit housing renovation initiatives

Efforts to renovate unfit housing in Indonesia are expanding through both institutional collaborations and large-scale government initiatives. PT Bank Tabungan Negara (Persero) Tbk (BTN) and the Pusat Pelaporan dan Analisis Transaksi Keuangan (PPATK) have partnered to renovate 20 homes for underprivileged families across Lebak, Cianjur, Sukabumi, and Purworejo. This follows a 2025 program that addressed 15 homes, bringing the two-year total to 35 families. BTN President Director Nixon L. P. Napitupulu noted the program targets low-income segments in economic deciles 1 through 4 who face difficulties accessing traditional mortgage financing.

Concurrently, the Indonesian Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) has announced a significant scale-up in Jakarta, setting a target to renovate 10,300 unfit houses this year. This represents a substantial increase from the approximately 200 houses renovated in 2025. Minister Maruarar Sirait identified the Cakung and Tambora areas as priority locations. The program focuses on improving floors, walls, and roofs for residents in the lowest economic deciles, while also addressing health risks associated with asbestos roofing in urban areas.
