Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung promotes cultural exhibition and mall tunnel plan for city’s 499th anniversary

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung praised the Threads of Wax exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, a collaboration between Indonesian and Hungarian artists marking 70 years of diplomatic relations and the 499th anniversary of Jakarta. He described the show as a “symbol kuat hubungan Indonesia dan Hungaria” that strengthens bilateral ties.

He also ordered the owners of Senayan City and Plaza Senayan to construct an underground tunnel linking the two malls, warning that the provincial government would raise taxes on the malls if they refuse. The tunnel is presented as part of Jakarta’s broader transit‑oriented development and connectivity plan.

Vice Governor Rano Karno said the 499th anniversary should be a turning point for public order and environmental awareness. He highlighted waste‑sorting initiatives and announced free public‑transport fares during the celebrations, adding, “Mudah‑mudahan di usia ke‑499, warga Jakarta semakin dewasa.”
