Jakarta Marks 499th Anniversary with Free Museum Access, Traffic Controls and Record Zoo Attendance

The Jakarta provincial government celebrated the city’s 499th anniversary in June 2026 by offering free admission to eleven museums and cultural sites on June 22, 27 and 28. The program, promoted on the Jakarta Culture Agency’s Instagram, includes venues such as the Wayang Museum, Textile Museum and Maritime Museum, with the agency urging residents to "enjoy free entry to museums managed by the Jakarta Culture Agency."

On the peak day of the festivities, June 27, traffic engineers implemented situational road‑work adjustments around Bundaran Hotel Indonesia. Alternative routes, parking pockets and public‑transport support were organized, and 475 Department of Transportation personnel were deployed to manage traffic, security and public services.

The celebration also drew large crowds to the Ragunan Wildlife Park. The park recorded 17,917 visitors, including 969 participants in a night‑zoo program, after offering free entry to mark the anniversary. Organizers highlighted the high public enthusiasm and used the event to promote Jakarta’s transformation toward a modern, inclusive, and sustainable global city.
