Multiple residential fires sweep Indonesian cities on July 12, 2026

On 12 July 2026, separate fires broke out in several Indonesian cities. In Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, a large blaze engulfed dozens of homes and damaged a school building in the densely‑populated Jalan Murjani area. Local officials dispatched fire crews and began damage assessments, urging residents to check electrical installations as the dry season heightens fire risk.

In North Jakarta’s Sunter Agung, a two‑storey house was gutted after an alleged electrical short circuit. The fire caused material losses estimated at Rp 20 million but no injuries were reported.

East Jakarta’s Pulogadung district suffered the deadliest incident: a fire, also suspected to have started from a faulty socket, spread from a residence to a nearby shop and a warung, killing three residents (ages 67, 40 and 10) and injuring another. Fourteen fire‑engine units and about 60 personnel were deployed, extinguishing the blaze by the early morning.

Authorities in each locality responded with fire‑fighter deployments and urged the public to observe safety precautions, especially as the region enters a dry season that raises the likelihood of similar incidents.
