Jakarta's Perumda Pasar Jaya equips 146 markets with waste‑sorting bins

Perumda Pasar Jaya has installed waste‑sorting facilities in all 146 traditional markets it manages in Jakarta. The rollout, announced by Director General Agus Himawan, is part of the Gerakan Bersama Bersih Pasar (GEBER) and follows Governor DKI Jakarta Instruction No. 5/2026, which mandates source‑level waste segregation ahead of the August 2026 ban on residual waste at the TPST Bantargebang landfill.

The initiative includes a pilot self‑managed waste‑handling project at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, developed with LAPI ITB and PT FDR, and a 58‑person task force that will monitor, educate and enforce the new practices. "Sebanyak 146 pasar ... sudah dilengkapi fasilitas tong sampah pilah," Himawan said, emphasizing that the move aims to create cleaner, healthier, and more hygienic market environments and support Jakarta’s goal of becoming a global city.

The program also calls for the development of SOPs and performance indicators for market managers, linking cleanliness and waste‑sorting outcomes to head‑of‑market evaluations.
