Jalisco authorities destroy 52,500-plant marijuana crop in Tequila
Authorities in Jalisco destroyed a large marijuana plantation containing approximately 52,500 plants in the mountainous region of Tequila. The discovery was made at a site known as Cerro Colorado, located about three kilometers from San José de la Barranca.
The operation was a coordinated effort involving the Jalisco State Police, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the National Guard. During surveillance patrols of rural paths and mountain areas, officers detected the extensive crop hidden within the vegetation.
Inspectors noted a density of roughly seven plants per square meter, with plants in an active growth phase reaching an average height of 1.70 meters. Following the discovery, federal authorities were notified, and a representative of the Federal Public Ministry took command of the scene. After collecting samples and photographic evidence for the investigation, the plants were destroyed via a controlled burn. No arrests have been reported, and the ownership of the land remains unknown.
