Marijuana crop eradication in Mexico
Overview
Mexican authorities have conducted large-scale marijuana eradication operations in the states of Jalisco and Michoacán.
In early October, a coordinated effort involving the Jalisco State Police, the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), and the National Guard led to the destruction of approximately 52,500 marijuana plants in the mountainous Tequila region. The crop was discovered at Cerro Colorado and destroyed via a controlled burn after evidence was collected.
Later in the month, operations expanded in Michoacán under the ‘Plan Michoacán por la Paz y la Justicia’. Agents from the Secretariat of Public Security and the Mexican Army identified and incinerated roughly 96,000 marijuana plants across three plantations in the towns of San Jerónimo and Buenavista. This operation targeted approximately two hectares of land containing over seven tons of plant material.
