Jalisco deputies demand explanation over exhausted victim assistance fund

Deputies in Jalisco are demanding explanations from the state government and the Ministry of Finance regarding the exhaustion of the State Fund for Aid, Assistance, and Integral Reparation (FAARI). Despite there being approximately 100 days remaining in the year, the fund has run out of resources intended to cover damage reparations for families of disappeared persons and relatives of other crime victims.

The fund, which had an allocation of 40 million pesos, is managed by the State Executive Commission for Victim Assistance (CEEAV), led by Francelia Hernández Cuevas. Hernández Cuevas reportedly informed victim collectives that they should delay resource requests until next year due to the lack of available funds.

Six deputies from the Special Commission for Attention to Disappeared Persons have agreed to demand accountability. Deputy President Tonantzin Cárdenas Méndez stated that the legislature is seeking information on the methodology and accounting of the fund. Additionally, Deputy Candelaria Ochoa Ávalos noted that the lack of funds is critical as the FAARI covers not only reparations but also transportation costs and economic support for searching for human remains in the field.
