Jalisco Governor Lemus defends municipal reelection amid infrastructure disputes

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus has expressed support for the reelection of municipal presidents, arguing that continuity is essential for long-term government projects. Speaking at the fifth government report of Zapopan Mayor Juan José Frangie, Lemus stated that reelection with established limits would prevent democratic setbacks and allow for the completion of 15-year strategic visions. To support Zapopan, Lemus announced 1,853 million pesos in state investment for infrastructure, including works on the Tesistán highway and the Zapopan Sur Park.

In contrast, Tonalá Mayor Sergio Chávez Dávalos has criticized the state administration for failing to fulfill promises regarding the Mi Macro Periférico project. Chávez Dávalos claimed that the governor has not met the commitment to complete the connection to Tonalá Centro by August. He specifically noted that five stations—San Gaspar, Matatlán, Coyula, Rancho de la Cruz, and Cerro de la Reina—remain unbuilt, alleging that budget priorities have shifted toward large-scale projects related to the FIFA World Cup instead of metropolitan municipal needs.
