Jamaat-e-Islami postpones long march until October
Jamaat-e-Islami has announced the postponement of its planned long march until the first week of October following a request from the Prime Minister. Despite the delay, party leader Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman emphasized that the protest movement will not be abandoned.
Speaking in Multan, Naeem ur Rehman stated that sit-ins have been ongoing in approximately 40 cities across the country since August 16. He criticized the government over rising petroleum prices and taxation, alleging that the administration uses these levies to mask corruption. The party is also seeking a written assurance regarding the removal of certain levies.
The party intends to engage in dialogue with the Prime Minister upon his return to the country. Naeem ur Rehman clarified that while they are willing to negotiate, the long march will proceed in October if the government fails to provide practical relief to the public.
