Jamaica Education Ministry hits 43% milestone in JETC reforms
The Education Transformation Oversight Committee (ETOC) announced that the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has implemented 43 % of the 365 recommendations of the Jamaica Education Transformation Commission (JETC) report, up from 37 % in the previous quarter. The progress represents a 600‑basis‑point increase and includes advances on 13 key recommendations. Over $3 billion has been spent on school repairs, with 32 schools completed and more than 200 still under reconstruction. Notable gains were reported in the Early Childhood pillar, such as expanded Brain Builder Centres and increased training for early‑year teachers, as well as improvements in literacy, numeracy and teacher capacity building. The committee aims for 53 % implementation by March 2027, 65 % by fiscal year 2027/28, and full completion by the end of 2031.
