Jamaica police seize 430 rounds of ammunition and firearm in St James
Police officers from the National Strategic Anti‑Gang Division (NSAD) and the St James Division carried out three operations on Thursday in the parish of St James, Jamaica. In Montego Bay, a grey Toyota Fortuner was stopped and five plastic bags containing 228 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition were found and the driver taken into custody. In a simultaneous stop of a white Toyota Voxy on Fairfield main road, a box wrapped in duct‑tape held 200 rounds of 9 mm ammunition; both occupants were detained.
Later that evening, during curfew enforcement in Barrett Town, officers discovered a Browning single‑action firearm with two 9 mm cartridges hidden between banana trees. No one was arrested in connection with the firearm. The three men arrested for the ammunition seizures remain in custody while investigations continue.
