Jamaica seeks strategic recovery following Hurricanes Beryl and Melissa

Following the impact of Hurricanes Beryl and Melissa, calls have been made for a strategic approach to relief, recovery, and rebuilding in Jamaica. Affected parishes, including St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St. James, and Trelawny, are identified as key areas for development under the Vision 2030 framework.

Proposed recovery strategies include the implementation of robust consultation plans and the involvement of agencies such as the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA), the Urban Development Corporation (UDC), the Social Development Commission (SDC), and the National Works Agency (NWA). Suggested initiatives include public-private partnerships to develop modern ports, the construction of seawalls, and the transformation of Black River into a learning city through academic and tourism-driven partnerships.
