JAMB clarifies admission statuses on CAPS

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released an explanation regarding the different statuses displayed on the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for candidates.

According to the Board, a ‘Not Admitted’ status indicates that a candidate has not yet been offered admission, but does not rule out future offers. The ‘Admission in Progress’ status signifies that an institution has proposed a candidate, but the process is awaiting further steps, such as a recommendation from the head of the institution or final approval from JAMB. JAMB cautioned that ‘Admission in Progress’ does not guarantee admission, as offers can still be rejected if prerequisite requirements are not met.

A candidate is officially considered ‘Admitted’ only after JAMB approves the offer, at which point the system displays the message: ‘CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION’. Candidates are advised to monitor their CAPS regularly for updates.
