JAMB issues advisory on UTME profile errors and admission scoring

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued an advisory to prospective Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry candidates regarding profile creation errors. The board warned that mistakes in names or dates of birth can cause significant issues during the admission process.

JAMB clarified that candidate details are pulled from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and cannot be edited or changed by the board after registration. The board further cautioned that obtaining an affidavit does not guarantee that records can be corrected within the JAMB system, urging candidates to ensure all identity details are accurate before proceeding.

In addition to profile accuracy, university admissions in Nigeria are determined by an aggregate score. This cumulative percentage is typically calculated by combining JAMB UTME scores, Post-UTME screening results, and O’Level grades. Most institutions scale the JAMB score to represent a specific portion, often 50 percent, of the total admission weight.
