JAMB UTME registration and security updates

Overview

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced new measures and advisories regarding the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration process in Nigeria.

Initially, the board issued an advisory warning candidates that errors in profile creation, such as incorrect names or dates of birth, could cause significant admission issues. JAMB clarified that candidate details are pulled from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and cannot be edited by the board after registration. The board noted that an affidavit does not guarantee that records can be corrected within the JAMB system.

Subsequently, JAMB implemented the use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for UTME registration. Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede stated this move aims to enhance security, prevent impersonation, and combat examination malpractice. Under this directive, candidates must provide their NIN at registration centers to retrieve data and reduce manual entry errors. Additionally, candidates are required to use accessible SIM cards that have not been previously used for UTME registration.
