James Bond franchise reboot moves toward new casting announcement

Amazon MGM Studios is moving forward with a reboot of the James Bond franchise, following the transition of creative control from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Producer Amy Pascal indicated that an announcement regarding the next actor to play 007 is likely by the end of the year, noting that the new iteration will provide a "really different" take on the character to distinguish it from Daniel Craig's tenure.

The search for the new lead is being described as a methodical process led by casting director Nina Gold. Reports suggest the studio may be seeking an unknown actor in their late 20s or early 30s. The upcoming project is expected to involve director Denis Villeneuve and a script by Steven Knight.

Beyond the main film series, the 007 brand is expanding through other media. The video game '007 First Light' stars Patrick Gibson, and a new audio drama adaptation of Charlie Higson's 'Young Bond' novel, 'Silverfin,' will feature Isaac Rouse as a teenage Bond.
