James McHugh, 1992 All-Ireland winner, killed in car crash

The GAA community is mourning the death of James McHugh, a former Donegal footballer and 1992 All-Ireland winner. Mr. McHugh, a native of Kilcar, was in his early sixties.

He was driving a vehicle that collided with a van on the N3 near Drummallaght, between Virginia and Cavan, just before 2:00 PM. His wife, Noreen, was a passenger in the car and sustained serious injuries; she was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital for medical treatment.

McHugh was a prominent figure in Donegal football, earning 59 caps between 1990 and 1996. His achievements included winning the 1990 Ulster Final Man of the Match award, two Ulster titles, an All-Star, and three Donegal senior football championships with Kilcar. He also served as the manager for Kilcar senior football.
