James McHugh and wife die in Cavan road collision
Former Donegal footballer James McHugh and his wife, Noreen McHugh, have died following a road collision in County Cavan. The incident occurred on the N3 at Drummallaght, between Virginia and Cavan, shortly before 2 pm on Monday.
James McHugh, a member of the 1992 Donegal team that won the county’s first All-Ireland senior football title, was driving the car involved in the crash with a van. Noreen McHugh, a passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to Beaumont Hospital where she later passed away. The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, sustained minor injuries and was treated at Cavan General Hospital.
Gardaí are appealing to witnesses and motorists who may have dashcam footage of the area between 1 pm and 2 pm on Monday to come forward to assist with investigations.
