James Talarico faces heated confrontations with voters at Texas Senate campaign events

Two videos posted on X show Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico being confronted by Black voters at Texas campaign town halls. In a San Antonio event, an attendee demanded that Talarico stay and answer questions or "suffer the consequences," to which he replied that he appreciated the voter’s presence. A separate clip from a Houston town hall captured influencer Kandice Webber telling Talarico, “You stay here, you answer our questions or you suffer the questions,” before he again responded politely, acknowledging her effort to travel.

The clips have gone viral, drawing half‑a‑million-plus views and sparking strong online reactions. Critics accuse Talarico of struggling to win over Black voters, citing past campaign ads that allegedly darkened a Black opponent’s skin and alleged remarks about another Black representative. Talarico’s campaign denies the accusations and says the remarks were about campaign methods, not race. The confrontations come as Talarico seeks to solidify support after defeating U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic primary for the Texas Senate race.
