James Talarico Faces Scrutiny Over Past Remarks in Texas Senate Race

Democratic strategist James Carville and broadcaster Al Hunt said Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico may need to retract or clarify earlier statements if he wants to win the race against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. They noted that Talarico’s past comments on race, gender identity, abortion and religion are being highlighted by Republican ads, and quoted Hunt: “He mentioned that there are six genders. I mean, I’m not sure if he did, but if that’s the case, he better take that back or at least clarify.”

Talarico has also been criticized for referring to women as “neighbors with a uterus,” a remark that has drawn additional controversy. Carville and Hunt suggested he shift focus to Paxton’s alleged misconduct and aim to energize Hispanic and Black voters, estimating the contest could be a 50‑50 race if he manages the backlash effectively.
