James Talarico returns to campaign after flu-related absence

Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has returned to the campaign trail following a nearly two-week absence that fueled intense political speculation and conspiracy theories. Talarico, who is running against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton, attributed his absence to recovering from a severe case of the flu.

During his time away from public view, various social media influencers and political opponents suggested Talarico had been admitted to a psychiatric facility in Ohio. These claims were bolstered by an unverified audio recording of a phone call to the Lindner Center of Hope, in which an individual appeared to suggest Talarico had been discharged. However, the Lindner Center of Hope issued a formal statement denying that Talarico had ever received treatment at their facility.

To counter the allegations, Talarico’s campaign released timestamped security camera footage appearing to show him at his home in Austin, Texas, during the period in question. Talarico has dismissed the rumors as “the craziest thing I’ve ever heard,” maintaining that he was simply ill and working from home to avoid infecting others.
