James Turner appointed Creative Director of Pokémon Art and Design
James Turner, a veteran designer for the Pokémon franchise, has rejoined The Pokémon Company International as the Creative Director of Pokémon Art and Design. Turner previously worked at Game Freak, where he was the first Westerner officially tasked with designing Pokémon, contributing to numerous species across several generations, including Vanillite, Obstagoon, and various Ultra Beasts.
Before this appointment, Turner left Game Freak to co-found the independent studio All Possible Futures, where he worked on the indie title The Plucky Squire. His new role at The Pokémon Company International focuses on international art and creative direction rather than direct species development.
This leadership change comes as the franchise prepares for its tenth generation. Upcoming titles, Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves, are expected to arrive in 2027 for the Nintendo Switch 2.
