James Webb Telescope reveals massive ancient galaxies and black hole stars
Observations from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the Very Large Telescope (VLT) have revealed significant anomalies in the early universe that challenge existing astrophysical models.
Researchers led by Chloe Cheng have discovered that some massive, ancient galaxies contain a much higher population of small, faint stars than previously estimated. This hidden stellar mass could make these galaxies up to four times more massive than traditional methods suggested. This finding complicates theories regarding how such large, mature structures formed so shortly after the Big Bang.
Additionally, JWST has identified unusual cosmic objects dubbed ‘black hole stars.’ These phenomena, such as MoM-BH*-1, appear to be supermassive black holes surrounded by dense gas clouds that emit light similar to a star. These objects, some comparable in scale to our solar system, emit immense energy that exceeds the physical limits of standard thermonuclear fusion, suggesting they are powered by matter falling into black holes at extreme speeds.
