James Webb Telescope captures Treasure Chest globule in Carina; NASA shares Saturn ring spokes

The James Webb Space Telescope released a high‑resolution image of the “Treasure Chest” cometary globule in the Carina Nebula, located about 7,500 light‑years from Earth. The globule contains a compact cluster of roughly 70 young stars, including a rare O‑type star about 19 times the Sun’s mass, and is estimated to be around 1.3 million years old. Its sculpted shape is influenced by the nearby massive star system Eta Carinae.

NASA’s Astronomy Picture of the Day featured a timelapse of Saturn’s B ring showing transient “spokes” that appear and disappear as the planet rotates. The spokes are thought to be shadows or reflections from dust and ice particles levitated above the rings by electromagnetic interactions with the solar wind, and their visibility changes with Saturn’s seasonal tilt.
