James Webb Telescope Finds Unknown Substance on Pluto, Titan and Detects Surviving Jupiter‑sized Planet Around White D{a

The James Webb Space Telescope has identified a previously unseen spectral absorption line on the surfaces of Pluto and Saturn’s moon Titan. Scientists say the feature, observed at 5.11 µm, may arise from an exotic ice or a mixture of organic molecules never detected before. Confirmation will require additional observations and future missions such as NASA’s Dragonfly lander.

In a separate study, JWST observations of the white‑dwarf system WD 1856 + 534, about 80 light‑years from Earth, revealed that its Jupiter‑sized planet WD 1856 b orbits extremely close to the stellar remnant. The planet shows an internal temperature of roughly 126 °C, far higher than expected from stellar heating alone, implying residual heat from a past heating episode. The findings offer new insight into how planets can survive the violent death of their host stars and what their future may look like.
