Overview
Since late June 2026 JWST has delivered a series of high‑impact observations. It detected a dense filament in galaxy cluster Abell 2744, atmospheric salt clouds on exoplanet GJ 504b, a 5.11‑µm absorption feature on Titan and Pluto, and a Jupiter‑sized planet around white dwarf WD 1856+534 with an internal temperature around 126 °C. In early July it imaged radio galaxy Centaurus A, revealing a dense stellar core, warped filaments, an S‑shaped gas/dust structure, warm rotating molecular hydrogen and fast ionised outflows, indicating black‑hole feedback after a merger. Deep‑field surveys identified record‑distant galaxy MoM‑z14 with strong metal lines, and highlighted ultra‑bright star Earendel as a possible driver of reionisation. On 13 July JWST mapped the twilight zones of ultra‑hot gas giant WASP‑121 b and inferred hidden water reservoirs on mini‑Neptune TOI‑270 d. A 16 July follow‑up pierced Centaurus A’s dust lane, revealing millions of stars and hot dust filaments, while NIRSpec observed a warm ionised filament feeding an 800‑light‑year rotating circumnuclear disk in elliptical NGC 4696. On 25 July JWST deepened studies of sub‑Neptune worlds. Most recently, observations of two candidate stars for Dyson‑sphere megastructures, including Tabby’s Star, found the reported infrared excesses were caused by background galaxies, dust and stellar variability, providing no evidence for artificial structures and reinforcing conventional astrophysical explanations.
