Jamia Millia Islamia students protest admission irregularities

Students at Jamia Millia Islamia have intensified protests over alleged irregularities in the university’s 2026-27 spot admission process. Demonstrators, including members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) and the Students' Federation of India (SFI), are demanding transparency regarding seat allocation and examination results.

Protesters have raised concerns that the decision to conduct offline spot registrations for vacant seats has created opportunities for discrepancies. Specifically, students allege that candidates ranked lower on merit and waiting lists were allotted seats while higher-ranked applicants were bypassed. The SFI has also called for clarity on programme-wise vacant seats and the implications of changes to Jammu and Kashmir reservation policies.

During an indefinite sit-in at the Central Canteen, student groups reported being forcibly removed from the campus site by authorities. While university officials have dismissed allegations of manipulation as “baseless,” maintaining that the admission process is “extremely transparent,” student unions have vowed to continue their agitation to ensure accountability.
